NAVIGON U.S. Central App Reviews

I purchased the US Central app almost 3 years ago. Did not update as I read all the problems in the reviews. Recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. I deleted the old app and installed the newest update, which did include the free map updates as promised with my original purchase. I have no extras. The app update has been outstanding in all regards. Based on my experience, it seems Garmin//Navigon may have fixed previous issues. I also recommend delegating the old before installing the new. I have no idea how extras affects the update issue.

I like that it is smaller and the interface is better but their traffic is still almost useless. At least it is a one-time upgrade and does reroute for major delays. TomTom has much better traffic but limits you to one device. Startup time is real slow. It takes a while before the app starts responding. I dont remember that issue in older releases Navigation routing is still top of the line but there are apps with better interfaces. I like the Panorama 3D feature. Without FreshMaps purchase you never get updates again so not much reason to buy the regional version other than the smaller initial cost. You still eventually end up buying the full program as the FreshMaps price is prorated to full map price.

Navigon promised us free map updates for life. Garmin, when they purchased Navigon, told us to pound sand. In this release, they offer a one-time free map update. Whoopee-do. Ive already switched to Waze, and that was before iOS6s free maps. Theres another half-dozen apps out there either free or less than ten bucks. Navigon/Garmin is running scared. They realize now theyve done nothing but abuse their user base, and people are leaving them in droves. One free map update? Will that make me come back? No. Give me what I was promised, free map updates for the life of the product. You got my money on that basis. You lied. This company does not keep its promises. Dont buy this. Go to all the many, many, alternatives.

I reviewed earlier that it didnt work on iPhone 5, but it does. It just takes a loooooong time to extract a map. It said it was done downloading but no map. About 20 minutes later I was in another app and navigon pops up saying extracting map, so you may have to wait a bit but it will work.

Navigon always struggled with customer support but now, since Garmin bought them, they dont even try. Good: Works off-line so saves data. Basic function is less buggy than the cheaper offerings. Bad: In-store purchases are cryptic, expensive and flaky on re-downloading after restore. Maps annual subscription is an example of Garmin trying to keep their business model as the world changes around them. Customer service is a shining examples of BAD.

Love the interface. Accurate map data, I use with confidence. I like Navigon so well after trying all the others that I spent the money for the full North American version. This app has performed well for me through several iOS upgrades, and Im anxious to use it with the iPhone 5. I believe the poor reviews come from competitors...

Liked on my last two iPhones but I cant get it to load any maps on my iPhone 5. I keep getting "cant register device" errors. Useless.

Was a great app. Now it doesnt work on iPhone 5 running iOS 6. Needs an update please then Ill put it back to a respectable star rating!!!

Every other navigation device out there allows you to change the zoom setting without losing the moving map display. If you zoom in Navigon, the map stops and the vehicle eventually drives off the map. Routing is still screwed up. "Shortest" is never the shortest route. I thought when Garmin bought the company they would fix this. Apparently not. Ive sent numerous detailed and respectful emails but no one responds. Ive given up....too bad, this app has/had a lot of promise.

This app has it all. Clean interface, very intuitive and easy to use. This is the most accurate GPS app I have ever used and is better then the stand alone GPS in my car. Definitely highly recommended. I love the pedestrian view as well. Although I think some in app features should be free such as the urban guidance, its not so bad. I did purchase the red light camera detector which is really helpful. Overall great app.

Been using this for years, and now in this update it says I need to contact navigon support and wont launch.

just downloaded the latest update. it has disabled the app entirely. nothing works. its useless. will have to delete and reinstall. this app is great when it works - but there are always lots of bugs and customer support is a joke. just deleted and installed. no improvement. app is now totally ineffectively. DO NOT INSTALL UPDATE.

Updated to the 2.4 version - and its yet another epic fail. Every update since Garmin took over yields an inoperable app on either my iPhone or my iPad. Once updated, I get to the "Map Manager" screen - which is totally blank. Just a background. No options, no ability to do anything but restart the app. Deinstalling and reinstalling (from iTunes or over Wifi) gives the same result - a completely inoperable and unusable application.

Freezes at the Map Manager. No longer functional.

I use this app for pre-planned rides on my motorcycle. I have several routes saved. I need the ability to export them to another device (like my iPad or a friends iPhone) and be able to import saved routes from them.

Totally confused with route planning. Trying to creat custom route by adding destinations, but the problem is it treats it like a destination. So I now have all these checkered flags between my start point and final end point. Im struggling with how to add it as waypoints and have it navigate based on those. Am I doing something wrong?

I used this app for a long time then it wouldnt work and when I tried to use it I was told to contact customer service. There are NO telephone numbers for customer service and e mails were ignored. I paid for this program and am now unable to use it. The major technical problem was that it would tell me to turn right to go south when right was north and vice versa. Sometimes the voice and the map were very different. I learned to glance at the map before obeying verbal instructions.

The new iOS 7 version looks nice and works well in portrait mode, but in landscape mode it wastes too much space on thick horizontal status and info bars, leaving too little space for the crucial map display. Thats a surprising problem to insert suddenly into a mature product, and its got to change.

I had navigon us east and now I purchase the central us and their routes dont connect , cannot map a route from Florida to Tennessee.

For those of us who spent a lot of money for the basic GPS plus upgrades, with the promise of lifetime map updates - fool me once, shame of you, fool me twice...no way! There are better options out there. Dont be deceived. Dont waste your money!
