NAVIGON U.S. Central App Reviews

The ramp-off, ramp-on problem seems to have come back. During several trips last month, the app routed us off the highway/route onto an exit, only to ramp us right back onto the road again! We ultimately had to check the turn by turn and disregard it when the app does this. We have also noticed that the app is doing a lot of indecisive routing, sending you in the wrong direction until the last moment, then it does a last-minute course correction. Or it misses the correct direction altogether. This used to be a great app, but this update is big step back in terms of usability. Were going back to Google Maps until it gets fixed.

It does not work they need to fix it

Unbelievable. Bought the central app a long time ago. Awhile ago bought the west coast maps for a vacation. Today Im driving from the Midwest to the west coast and the Midwest maps are gone! I only have the west coast maps. This is the Midwest app! Unbelievable. Now trying to navigate with the built in app with crappy AT&T service. Thanks Garmin. You totally screwed me.

Its broken and has been so for a while. What a POS. I wish they would refund our money. I cant wait until iOS 6

Like others have said, in app purchases of regions are broken. Ive bought west and east coast maps in the previous version and cannot install them. The workaround is to reinstall navigon - then select the region you want in the map manager. After you download it, it will no longer let you select any other region. Have to reinstall to select the region. What a pain. Still, I find navigon to have the best actual navigation of any app. I really hope these issues get resolved.

I wonder why are people having problems with this navigation system. I still download all my apps the old fashion way. When the download is completed, shut your phone/computer off and turn it back on. Unless there are bug issues in some parts of the country and not in some other area. This map is still good to me.

As of July 9th I will dont have the option to download Midwest states. I can download the east states but that is useless to me. I live in Illinois. I bought this to use in Illinois. Garmin has taken a once useful app and has literally turned it into a waste of money.

I have loved using Navigon for years, but the latest update has made it unusable for me. I originally purchased the US Central version as I live in Texas. I made an in-app purchase of US East a few years ago for a vacation trip I was taking. Everything was good. With this update, I can no longer access the US Central maps, even though the app namre is US Central. I only have access to the US East maps. Looks like i will be using my iGo app instead.

I have Navigon central but new update doesnt allow use of central maps. Same thing happened on my iPad. Whats up Garmin?

Bought central maps and then east and west. Central maps are not accessible needs to be fixed.

Update has eliminated my central maps. App is useless. Come up with a fix soon or is this an attempt to force us to buy fresh maps?

After installing the update and newest maps this app will not load. Just hangs and hangs. Not acceptable for any app, but having paid $30 this stings alot. When I first bought this app it was awesome, after all the updates it is unusable. Thanks?

Called customer & was able to get my central maps back. Navigon is still my best navigator app & much better than waze.

The reason app isnt starting up is probably because it tried doing a software update and you lost wifi signal during the installation. All you need to do is uninstall and reinstall the app while your iPhone has wifi signal. Follow up with your location software installation while your connected to wifi. It should fix your problem 100%

Using this app always seems to be more difficult than it should be... its never quite clear how to do simple things like getting back to the main menu, going back to a previously entered address, displaying saved favorites, changing map settings. Everything is just a little confusing and non-intuitive, or just not possible. Plus the maps are just plain ugly. Really ugly. I mostly realized how much better a map app could be when I eventually tried the Tomtom app on a friends ipod. The difference is like night and day. The whole app is so much easier to use. Everything just makes sense, and it has so many little added features to make navigating around the app and using it so much easier. Its really obvious the difference between an app like Navigon thats "good enough," and an app like the Tomtom one where they really think of everything. I will say that the voice commands with the actual street names is better in the Navigon app, but other than that, I much prefer the Tomtom app.

What happened? No Central States (I live in Chicago) since latest update. I now wont update on my iPhone so it doesnt suffer the same fate as the iPad. This app was the gold standard of navigation apps, and priced accordingly, but worth every penny. Since Garmin has come into the picture, its become noticeably worse, with the most recent update rendering the app useless for 80% of my travel. Im fully invested in panorama, all states, traffic, radar, etc but now it sits idle and Im back to renting Hertz forever-lost. And dont get me started about now having to pay for map updates (not so when the app was purchased). What a shame---Garmin, please let my Navigon go.....

Everything is working as advertised. I like that you dont have to download maps until you need them - saves memory.

Garmin bought this and now its junk, cant update or upgrade.

I now have my central maps back. A number of reinstalls was needed. A promised back to 5 stars.

As others have noted, the central USA maps are no longer available, making the app USELESS for anyone who buys it. I would strongly suggest you dont. I note the lack of response or redress from anyone from Garmin/Navigon, so I guess they dont really care. Perhaps they are spooked by the built in navigation capability and turn by turn instruction that will be offered by Apple as part of iOS6. Whatever their reasons, I intend to vote with my feet and NEVER by another Garmin product - I feel totally ripped off.
